| Gabriel Pozzo started
his driving career at an early age, racing his fathers Fiat 125 in the countryside across
the same stages used by the Rally of Argentina. But he had to wait until he was 17 to make
his first formal appearance at the Rally Villa Las Rosas. In 1997 Pozzo competed in the Argentinean Championship driving a class A6 VW Golf 1.6. He scored victories right from the outset, excelling in the Rally San Luis and the Rally of Tucuman. In 1998 the young Argentinean gained more valuable experience by taking part in the Argentinean Championship in the N4 class at the wheel of a Subaru Impreza, finishing 6th. His impressive results over the 1999 season attracted the attention of the Cordoba Rally Team and by the end of the year he was appointed as a Cordoba Rally Team driver. Pozzo took part in ten Group N World Cup events in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, clinching his first victory at the Acropolis Rally and finishing 3rd in the final classification with 22 points. He added a further four victories in 2001 and these, together with five other podium finishes, secured him the Group N title at the San Remo Rally with three events to go. In 2002 it was designed that the newly crowned Group N FIA Cup Winner will drive the fourth works Skoda Octavia WRC on a minimum of nine events. He was the nominated works driver in Argentina, but the amount of events was only four during the whole season. David Sutton Cars, a team which had prepared Pozzo´s car, terminated its contract with the Skoda Motorsport and they no longer required the services of Argentinian driver. |
