| Toshihiro Arai is
one of Japan's most popular rally drivers and has a great deal of experience gained in the
All Japan Rally Championship as well as selected WRC events. He made his rally debut in
1987, but has only hit the big time in the last few seasons, thanks in no small part to
his connection to the Subaru World Rally Team. "Toshi" first campaigned at World
Rally Championship level in the 1997 Rally of Australia, finishing fourth in Group
N. He achieved a massive result for Japanese drivers on the 2000 Safari, by netting sixth place and Acropolis in Greece went even better. He was the first non-works driver in fourth place overall. In 2001 he made a contract with Prodrive-Subaru and contested ten events with a works car. He placed fourth in Cyprus, but the other results were not so good. In 2002 Arai was driving in FIA´s group N Procuction Car Championship and he kept on driving in the series also in 2003 and 2004 taking the second places in the series. |
